Blogs & CMS scripts

Most web site owners don’t really need to know how to build a website from scratch nor do they need to pay web developers to build one for them.

All the hard work involved in building sites has already been done by professional developers who have built great free tools such as the Joomla and WordPress blog/Content Management System scripts.

These flexible and easy to use scripts allow you build your site in minutes and take advantage of an every growing range of free and paid-for themes.

Both also support ‘plug-ins’ which add great new features to your site with just a few mouse clicks.

Of the two scripts, we prefer WordPress but both scripts have their fans and the most important thing is to use the one you’re happiest with.

One of the reasons we love WordPress is the great app for the iPad which makes easy work of updating a site on the move!

The other great thing about WordPress is that it’s available in two options, a free downloadable script you can install on your own server or web hosting account and a free blog service which includes hosting.

Whichever script you choose, if you’re hosting it on your own server/hosting account you should always:

1. keep your script up to date – scripts are always updated with new features and, more importantly, security fixes. By keeping your script up to date you’ll help keep your data safe and protect your visitors from the risk of malicious code known as malware which can be uploaded to sites using weak, or out of date scripts.

2. back-up your data on a regular basis – servers die, web hosts go bust and scripts can get compromised. All of these are risks to your data so, if you value it, make sure you keep a copy of it safe on your computer.
